Acne is one
of the most commonly treated diseases in dermatology, occurring
in up to 80% of people at some stage of life. In spite of multiple
treatments available, many patients fail to improve adequately AND
MAY DEVELOP SIDE EFFECTS.

Acne
usually occurs during adolescence and affects particular areas of
the body, such as the face, chest, and back. It involves extensive
production of sebum by hypertrophic sebaceous glands. When these factors
are accompanied by a defect in keratinization, the skin becomes a
fertile ground for build-up of corneal clogs in the follicular infundibulum.
These may remain aseptic or result in the growth of microorganisms
(mainly Propionibacterium acnes) which are responsible for the inflammatory
lesions that often result in macules and permanent scars.

The
ClearLight procedure is a high intensity, narrow band enhanced blue
light system, which achieves over 60% clearance of acne lesions, following
a total of 8 bi-weekly 10 minute treatment sessions. This UV safe
acne photoclearing (APC) system is designed to operate above the threshold
necessary to destroy the acne bacteria and at a rate that is quicker
than the time needed for proliferation to occur.
ClearLight
is the first medical devise designed to significantly clear inflammatory
acne lesions in four weeks without side effects. Traditional acne
treatments have various side effects. Topical therapies often cause
redness, irritation and/or peeling. Oral therapies may have even more
side effects. Both require at least 3 months of continuous treatment-
with conditions often worsening before they improve. With both, scarring
remains an issue. ClearLight PhotoClearing system has been successfully
used for the treatment of mild to moderate inflammatory acne lesions
in 150 subjects treated twice weekly for four weeks.
